Supporting indigenous children

by Toshiba Australia

Yalari and ToshibaYalari is a not-for-profit organisation that offers quality secondary education scholarships at leading Australian boarding schools for Indigenous children from regional, rural and remote communities.

Toshiba commenced their relationship with Yalari last year. Assisting with the development of indigenous children is a crucial part of our indigenous commitment and is core to Toshiba’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). In this last year, we have been working with Yalari to sponsor Jed’s scholarship, including tuition and full boarding.

Jed has been supported by Toshiba and Yalari on his education journey.

He is currently boarding in year seven at St Ignatius College, Riverview, after getting a scholarship through Yalari. His student support officer says, "It has blown me away how easily Jed has settled into Riverview. Jed has astounded me with how driven and conscientious he is with his studies, and I have no doubt that he will do great at Riverview. If he is not studying, Jed can be found partaking in a number of extra-curricular activities."

He is enjoying PDHPE because he has learnt a lot of different things about mental health and the health of others. He also loves sports and is grateful to have so many opportunities to try different sports.

Jed is proud to be part of the Yalari community and to meet different people. He also loves the teachers, boarding staff and Yalari staff members who have made him feel so welcome.

Jed says, “I am so grateful to have a scholarship at Saint Ignatius College, Riverview. If it weren't for Yalari, I don't know where I would be, but I know that this is a gift that will set me up for life.”

Toshiba wishes Jed all the best in his studies, and looks forward to continuing to support his journey.
